Updating DynSite Settings for Private Addresses

If you are behind a firewall, a router (including Nexland ISB2LAN, Pro400, Pro800, Wavebase series routers) and using any kind of Private Addressing scheme, you may need to make an adjustment so that your dynamic DNS update happens with your public IP address, not your private one.

Right click on the DynSite icon in the system tray, and choose Setup.

You should then see the setup menu. Select the Services tab, and right away check the Hide unused services option, which will make things easier to see:

If you expand the tree for Dynamic DNS Services, you will see that right underneath the entry for "eHostCanada DNS" is your domain name (e.g. "example.com"), and underneath that is the hostname you configured (e.g. "myhome.example.com"). These are the screen names you gave earlier in the setup process.

To change the settings for a hostname you have already setup, select the hostname from the tree and click on Properties.

In either case, you will see the Host or Domain Properties screen:

Check the Use an alternate IP address for updates checkbox and then in the Alternate IP address field put 1.1.1.1.

This special IP address will signal our system to update your settings with the remote peer address we see you connect from, which should be the public IP address on your router, firewall or VPN.
